This is the first time that I have come back home and realized how old my dog, Bacon, is getting. It’s no secret that a dog is man’s best friend, and for very good reason. While they can be annoying at times, dogs are our loyal companions. They make us feel valued, even getting excited when we get back from checking the mailbox. There is nothing that Bacon loves more (other than food) than everyone being home. His sense of calm is evident when we are all in one room and he can rest, surely due to him being a herding dog. We are fortunate enough to have access to these beautiful woods and creek just behind our house where he can run around and go for a little dip. It is truly special to be able to let him of the lease and run around and be free as a dog should be able to do. A dog brings comfort that is hard to replicate, all anyone wants is to feel needed and this is exactly how a dog makes you feel (even if its only because you have thumbs and can open their food for them!). At the end of the day it is difficult to think of a world without Bacon in it and I dread the day that this happens, but for now I’ll give him my leftovers and make him the happiest he can be. In this time of quarantine it is great to be able to have Bacon, especially being an only child, taking him on walks is a welcome reason to be outdoors when I’m not waiting to get into Trader Joe’s.
