The Made in Oldstead Food boxes is the solution coming from Michelin-starred Tommy Banks for how to enjoy his amazing food during lockdown. Each week there are three food boxes released, at 9 am on a Wednesday, for delivery for the following week. With one vegetarian option and two meat options, there is something for everyone. Coming in between £50 and £60, these boxes are an excellent value considering there are two, three-course meals, and are hearty portions. This week we split two boxes between five people, which included a smoked salmon mousse, oatcakes, pickled apple and fennel for starter; braised beef cheek, pancetta pommes anna, white cabbage kimchi and pickled walnut puree for the main; and a chicory and salted delice with creme fraiche for dessert. Included in the box are clearly labeled items and instructions on how to heat the meal if they needed to be, for this box only the main needed heating but was not difficult, even after two bottles of sparkling. With the menu, there was a QR code that led you to a Spotify playlist to enjoy with your meal, information about some of the ingredients and more fun information about the meal as well as possible allergens. The braised beef cheek was spectacular and an incredible size and I wish I could relive that first bite again. I will definitely be ordering the box again and they vary so much each week to keep it interesting. You are also able to order two, three-course meals for two as well as six-course meals for special occasions and can add on their premade cocktails which are also amazing. If you want to give this Made in Oldstead box a go yourself make sure to get onto the website before 9 am to join the website queue and I recommend having the webpage open on multiple browsers for the best chance at securing a box!
